Auditors discovered more than $112,000 in unsecured cash, checks, and money orders dating back several months scattered in the court clerks office. Case files were stacked on tables, in hallways, and in a holding cell. The disarray prompted the Arizona Supreme Court to issue an order assigning administrative control of both courts to the presiding Pinal County Superior Court judge. Subsequent investigation uncovered practices that rivaled those in Ferguson. Defendants on time payment plans were required to regularly appear in court, even if they were up to date on their payments. When one defendant showed up a day late, Sulley insisted on issuing a warrant for failure to appear.

A myth for the holiday is that Imbolc is the day the Cailleach the hag of Gaelic tradition gathers her firewood for the rest of the winter. Legend has it that if she intends to make the winter last a good while longer, she will make sure the weather on Imbolc is bright and sunny, so she can gather plenty of firewood. Therefore, people are generally relieved if Imbolc is a day of foul weather, as it means the Cailleach is asleep and winter is almost over. This, I find, is quite a bit more reassuring than the redundant Groundhog winter indicator x number of weeks until winter ends vs x number of weeks before spring begins hmm?Really?Great. Thanks for that. One folk tradition that continues in both Christian and Pagan homes on St. Brigids Day or Imbolc is that of the Brigids Bed. The girls and young, unmarried, women of the household or village create a corn dolly to represent Brigid, called the Brideog little Brigid or young Brigid, adorning it with ribbons and baubles like shells or stones. They make a bed for the Brideog to lie in. On St. Brigids Eve January 31, the girls and young women gather together in one house to stay up all night with the Brideog, and are later visited by all the young men of the community who must ask permission to enter the home, and then treat them and the corn dolly with respect.

Tried to make them understand by signs that I wished to get across the river; they made signs, by pointing down the river, by placing both hands together, having the fingers closed, which led me to think I could get across further down. They made signs for us to be off, and that they were going back again. I complied with their request, and after bidding each other a friendly good bye, we followed down the banks of the river, which I now find is the Roper. At seven miles tried to cross it, but found it to be impossible; it is now divided into a number of channels, very deep and full of running water. Proceeded further, and tried it at several places, but with the same result. At twelve miles, camped close to a steep rocky hill on the north side of the river. Searched all round for a crossing, but was unable to find one. To the eastward the country is all on fire. The banks of the river are thickly lined with cabbage trees, also the cane, bamboo, and other shrubs. Two small turtle shells were picked up by the party at the native camp. The country is still of the same fine description.

Just after sunrise, the reporter told him, Schifter had pulled up to the east gate of City Hall in a black car. Then, without so much as unbuckling his seat belt, he had parked, pointed a shotgun at his face, and pulled the trigger. Ive been in the courts a lot being a clerk of courts, so it meant I was facing the lawyers and barristers, and I did the same thing when I was on the bench, I faced the lawyers. So Ive never been in Court where Ive faced the Magistrate. I cant really say if I would have enjoyed being a lawyer, because Ive never done it. Alas, for all those whose minds are currently whirring about the possibility of skipping the bar table and going straight to the bench, times have changed. Clerks arent really eligible to be a Magistrate . In the mid 1980s it changed so that you had to be appointed from either a Barrister or a Solicitor. Back in the day you had a seniority list and once you became eligible to be a Magistrate it was a matter of seniority of when you got on the bench. What happened at the time I got on was that there were 4 vacancies and four Clerks of Courts including me applied for the jobs and we were then interviewed by the relevant authorities and then we were appointed to the bench. So it didnt really involve any Law Institute or the Bar Council or anything like that. Since his retirement Patrick has been involved in quite a few publications, that have allowed a convergence of his passions. Ive been doing the monthly crossword for the Law Institute of Victoria, we call it Letters of the Law.
